Surface-mounted external roller shutters, also called façade shutters, are not tied directly to the window construction — the box is fitted on the outer wall surface and stays visible from the façade side. This is the only variant that can also be fitted where shutters weren't included in the original building design, since it doesn't require any changes to the window opening.
